We, as a collaborative community, believe all of our students can learn and will be prepared for the 21st century workforce.
Based on the results of the NYS ELA, NYS Math Exam and the NYSESLAT exam the school will develop a strategic plan to support all students especially English Language Learners and Students with disabilities by providing students with research-based targeted small group instruction.
P.S. 1K will provide our student with learning experiences that prepare them to tackle the rigorous expectations of the common core learning standards by:
- Consistently using data to inform, refine and reflect on instruction teaching practices in order to promote student progress.
- Developing supports for the academic, social and emotional needs of all students including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
- Providing students with rigorous instruction to prepare them to be college and career ready.
- Using technology to prepare our students for the 21st century.
- Collaborating with our colleagues to reflect our practices to support student learning.
- Actively fostering relationships within and without the community to improve student achievements and support student growth
- Establishing strong family ties in order to achieve our overall goals.
Respect – Students and staff will always demonstrate respectful behavior towards themselves, others and the school. They will be supportive, collaborative and accepting of all individuals in the school.

The Framework For Great Schools
Instruction is customized, inclusive, motivating and aligned to the Common Core Standards. High standards are set in every classroom. Students are actively engaged in ambitious intellectual activity and developing critical thinking skills.

Teachers will be committed to the success and improvement of their classrooms and school. They have the opportunity to participate in professional learning within a culture of respect and continuous improvement. Teachers will maximize professional learning time by studying and engaging in conversations to improve student outcomes which that will impact their instructional practices.
Effective School Leadership
The Administrative Team will nurture the professional growth of teachers, and staff, developing and delivering the instructional and social-emotional support that drives student achievement. In addition providing time, resources and specific feedback to refine instruction practices that will lead to improving student outcomes.
Strong Family-Community Ties
All staff members of the school community, will maximize opportunities to bring resources from the community into the school building by welcoming, encouraging, and developing partnerships with families, businesses, and community-based organizations.
